Kris Wu Jailed for 13 Years for Rape and Fined 600 M RMB for Tax Evasion

Probably the biggest legal saga in the land of Chinese entertainment, the rape accusation towards Wu Yifan (Kris Wu) has come to an end as the verdict is announced today.

The 32-years-old singer and actor who was once at the top in many idol-related charts has been sentenced 11 years and 6 months for rape and additional deportation upon release. Another 1 year and 10 months was added for the crime of soliciting a crowd for fornication.

During the trial, the investigation revealed that Wu Yifan "took advantage of three drunken women who did not know how to resist or could resist to have sex with them in his residence" during November to December, 2020. 

On July 1, 2018, Wu Yifan, together with other people, engaged in promiscuous activities with two women after drinking.

In addition to sexual abuse cases, it was found that Wu Yifan evaded taxes from 2019 to 2020. The evaded amount tallied to 95 million RMB and such evasion was done by fictitious business conversion, false income declaration and concealment of personal income. Other underpaid taxes include 84 million RMB.

For tax evasion, the Second Inspection Bureau of the Beijing Municipal Taxation Bureau fined him 600 million RMB including late payment fees.

The case dated back to July 8, 2021 when a 19-years-old lady named Du Meizhu published a Weibo post accusing the former EXO member of sexual abuse. Wu Yifan denied all the accusations yet he was later detained. Here's a look back to the timeline of this high-profiled case in c-ent.
