Chen Yuqi Apologized over Supposedly Sexist Remark

While China allegedly bans effeminate actors, netizens do not seem to tolerate sexist remarks from celebrities. Or  is it based on who said so?

On a set, Chen Yuqi (Yukee Chen) talked about the color pink. She said

I don't like pink, too girly. Turned out you really are a girl, we all think the pink color is too girly.

Netizens rushed to discuss if this was a sexist remark and if it made Chen Yuqi misogynistic while her fans said the 30-years-old actress has always been supporting women's independence in her defense.

A while later, the female lead of the currently airing drama "Unchained Love" published a note of apology. It reads

Liking a color is subjective. However, I should not have made stereotypical judgement based on my subjective (view). I apologize everyone. From now on, I will be more cautious with my words and conducts, and will continue to accept everyone's supervision and suggestions, I will put more effort on my business ability and strive to be a better person.

Netizens have questioned the need for an apology in this situation, and whether or not individuals should be able to express their own views without fear of backlash.

What do you think of this issue?
